The majority of Boutan’s experiments, which identified most of the major problems of underwater picture making, were done in the 1890’s at the Arago Marine Laboratory at Banyuls-sur-Mer, on France’s Mediterranean coast. In this very rare book, published in 1900, he describes his underwater experiments and events at Banyuls. The book is considered the foundation of all underwater photography books that followed.
