NIKONOS II

NIKONOS II

Japan, circa 1970 – ISDHF Collection

Following the popularity of the French Calypso Phot, the Japanese camera manufacturer, Nikon, purchased the rights to produce the camera under the name Nikonos. The Nikonos went through a series of models I (1963), II and Calypso/Nikkor (1968), III (1975), IV (1980), V (1984), and the RS (1992), which was a single lens reflex camera. Only the Nikonos I through III shared the unique, all mechanical focal plane shutter of the Calypso. The later models were based on the Nikkormat electronic shutter and light metering system. Leslie Leaney donated this camera.
