Meet the Distillers – Ketel One & Don Julio

Our Cayman Cookout experience got off to a great start this afternoon with a beverage tasting hosted by the master distillers of Don Julio Tequila and Ketel One Vodka, alongside the “World’s Best Bartender” Charles Joly and World Class Global 2017 mixology winner, Kaitlyn Stewart.  

At the Audi Beach Pavilion, against the backdrop of Grand Cayman’s stunning Seven Mile Beach, attendees were treated to cocktail samplings paired with tasty bites from the Ritz-Carlton’s talented culinary team. 

Our host, Vicki Wheaton, warmed up the audience and set the tone for a lively Q&A with Bob Nolet, Master Distiller of Ketel One Vodka, and Enrique de Colsa, Master Distiller of Don Julio Tequila.  

Charles Joly served up an intriguing Ketel One cocktail, dubbed “Labyrinth”, with a scent reminiscent of a Bloody Mary and explosion of flavours that included hints of earthy carrot juice and zesty bitters.  

 Kaitlyn Stewart’s “TNT” cocktail was equally extraordinary, and delicious, with a Don Julio Blanco base and flavours of citrus and sherry, inspired by one of Kaitlyn’s favourite drinks, a tequila and tonic.  

It wasn’t all cocktail swigging though, we did of course learn a thing or two along the way. Enrique de Colsa emphasised the importance of investing in a good quality tequila and told us all that we should have the “same expectation for what is in your drink as you do for what’s on your plate”. Sounds like great advice to us!
