The profile of the forehead is very steep. The dorsal fin and anal fin are quite long. The dorsal fin, anal fin and caudal fin (tail) are very dark, if not black. The body varies from gray to quite dark in color. Grows to 40 inches (1 m) in length. The black jack is found worldwide in tropical waters. It inhabits oceanic waters, usually deeper than 100 feet (30 m), but will frequently swim along drop-offs. The black jack is usually solitary, but sometimes forms pairs or small groups. It feeds on small fishes.
