Phylum Cnidaria (hydroids, jellyfish, corals, sea anemones, black corals and gorgonians)
Sertularella speciosa
61 to 100+ ft
Feather-shaped colonies are pale in color. Evenly spaced branches, bearing numerous white polyps, extend alternately from the main stalk. Colonies may consist of a single stalk or a cluster of several stalks. The branching hydroid is common throughout the Caribbean. It inhabits a variety of environments including reefs and wrecks. It will often grow on dead gorgonians. It produces an uncomfortable but harmless sting.
