Terminal phase adults are brightly colored with blue, green, rose and orange. There are wavy lines of orange and green around the mouth and eyes. The dorsal fin and anal fin are orange along the base and blue-green along the edge. The tail is distinctly crescent-shaped in large males and is dark green with an orange stripe along the upper and lower edges. Initial phase adults are usually brown with a broad white area from the pectoral fin to the base of the tail. Juveniles are brown with two white stripes; very similar to juvenile princess parrotfish. Adults grow to a length of 20 inches (51 cm).The queen parrotfish is common throughout the Caribbean. It inhabits coral reefs. It is an active swimmer, stopping to feed by scraping algae from rocks and coral with its "beak".
