Priolepis hipoliti
0 to 100+ ft
The body is reddish brown to orange with alternating pale and dusky body bars. The dusky bars are wider than the pale bars. Brighter orange spots are present on the dorsal fin, tail, and anal fin. The second spine on the dorsal fin is elongated. The eyes have a gold iris with a green pupil. The rusty goby grows to a length of 1.5 inches (4 cm). The rusty goby is common throughout the Caribbean. It inhabits coral reefs and rocky rubble areas at depths between 10-300 feet (3-100 m). Like most gobies, it perches on its fin, however this fish will often perch on the ceilings of caves or undersides of ledges. It will dart out to catch plankton.
