Saccoglossan / Lettuce sea slug

Phylum Mollusca (snails, nudibranchs, bivalves, squid & octopus)
Tridachia crispata
0 to 60 ft
A "snail without a shell", this nudibranch is usually cream to light green colored in the Cayman Islands. Easily distinguished by rows of ruffles along the upper surface, this sea slug might be thought to resemble lettuce, hence the common name. The lettuce sea slug is common throughout the Caribbean, including the Cayman Islands. It is found on algae on which it feeds. Its color and texture allow it to blend in perfectly with its background.
