The body color is dark brown to brick red above paling to white or yellow on the belly. Several bright blue lines radiate from the eyes and many small bright blue dots may cover the body. Also, bright blue lines may be seen behind the mouth and on the base of the tail. The tail is edged in dark brown or black. The sharpnose pufferfish grows to a length of 4.5 inches (11 cm). The sharpnose pufferfish is common throughout the Caribbean. It primarily inhabits coral reefs but is also found in seagrass beds. It has a diverse diet including seagrass, sponges, crustaceans, mollusks and several other invertebrates.
