TOPICS
Choose one (1) topic from below to virtually present on:
TOPIC I: VIRTUAL REALITY AND TOURISM – ENTICING A NEW GENERATION OF EXPLORERS
According to UPROXX, in 2017 the tourism industry was reporting a 190% increase in bookings since the adoption of Virtual Reality (VR) in their approach to business, and VR is anticipated to become bigger and more integrated into travel and tourism as the technology advances. From the creation of 360-degree destination videos to entice persons to visit an attraction or destination, to virtual tours of hotels and even aircraft, to the Travel Concierge, your virtual travel agent which scans numerous databases to come up with the perfect, individualized travel package, to attractions that combine physical and virtual dimensions, VR can enrich the visitor experience by blending both a real-world mixed with virtual reality.
As Tourism Ambassador, share one idea using Virtual Reality (VR), the Department of Tourism can use to encourage persons to visit the Cayman Islands or to enhance an existing product that will surely make the visitor experience even more memorable and enjoyable.
TOPIC II: DEVELOPING SMART AND SUSTAINABLE CARIBBEAN COUNTRIES - BUILDING BACK BETTER
In 2017, the region experience a devastating hurricane season with nine (9) island nations taking a severe battering and with people's lives and livelihoods being destroyed overnight. This caused our Caribbean planners and developers in partnership with international organizations and aid agencies, to take stock and determine how we can build more resilient countries that can better withstand future intense shocks which may become the new normal.
As Tourism Ambassador share your perspective on how the tourism sector in the Caribbean can play its part in helping our region to "Build Back Better" to create more resilient countries and sustainable lifestyles and livelihoods for our people.
TOPIC III: EQUIPPING OUR YOUTH TO THRIVE IN A CHANGING TOURISM ENVIRONMENT
In an Overseas Development Institute (ODI) 2015 report on ‘Jobs for the Future’, states that “Tomorrow’s jobs will look dramatically different from those of today. Fundamental changes in technology—the ‘digital revolution’—are breaking down barriers and building new bridges with unprecedented speed. Together with the retirement of the baby boomer generation and rise of the Millennials generation, we see a workforce with new characteristics. Interconnectivity and globalisation are weaving a new economy that connects the world at great speed, creating new powerhouses and threatening traditional models.”
As Tourism Ambassador, put forward three (3) strategies that the Cayman Islands should pursue to better prepare our youth to meet these new realities when working in an ever-changing tourism sector
