A number of new flights and product updates lead this week air travel news. 

This week Delta announced plans for new flights to Hawaii from Detroit starting June 29, 2019. Delta will operate the new Detroit - Honolulu route on Boeing 767-300ER aircraft with 25 fully flat-bed seats in Delta One, 29 seats Delta Comfort+ and 171 seats in the Main Cabin. The onboard experience includes access to Wi-Fi, free personal in-flight seatback entertainment screens and power ports in every seat. Flights will depart Detroit at noon, arriving in Honolulu at 3:43 p.m., while return flights will leave Honolulu at 3:15 p.m. and arrive in Detroit 6:10 a.m. the next day. 

Also this week airlines continued to gear up for ski season with United Airlines’ announcement of its 2018 - 2019 schedule of flights to top ski destinations in the United States. All told the airline will operate more than 100 flights to 12 of the country’s top ski destinations, including new flights this year between Denver and Mammoth Lakes, California and between Los Angeles and Eagle/Vail, Colorado; Sun Valley, Idaho; and Mammoth Lakes, California. In addition to new service from Denver and Los Angeles, United is offering customers increased daily service between San Francisco and Eagle/Vail, Colorado; and Jackson Hole, Wyoming throughout the winter season. United will also offer a second daily flight from Chicago to Eagle/Vail and between San Francisco and Bozeman, Montana around the holidays.

 

In the Caribbean, this week Cayman Airlines announced new seasonal nonstop flights between New York and Grand Cayman. Starting December 15, the airline will run daily nonstop service from New York - JFK. The service will end April 29, 2019. 

In Asia, this week Japan Airlines and American Airlines announced new service between Tokyo Narita and Seattle, starting March 31, 2019, marking Japan Airlines’ sixth West Coast route. The two airlines will also introduce 20 new codeshare flights through Seattle, for a total of 56 connecting destinations in the United States on flights operated by Alaska Airlines. The new service will run daily. 

In Europe, this week Eurowings announced an expansion of its flight program from Düsseldorf to New York. Starting December 1, the airline will run six flights per week to Newark Airport, in addition to its already existing connections to JFK. Eurowings will assume responsibility of the connection which had previously been offered by Lufthansa.

Finally, in onboard product news this week, Air France announced the latest updates to its Economy and Premium Economy cabins. The new product will roll out on the airline’s 15 Airbus A330s, which will be refitted starting in January 2019. Air France is also updating the color scheme and adding more products and services to all of its long-haul flights.
