The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism (DOT) has launched a new video on its corporate website OurCayman.ky and YouTube channel to guide licensed accommodations through the mandatory tax submissions process.
Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (Tuesday, 27 August 2019) The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism (DOT) has launched a new video on its corporate website OurCayman.ky and YouTube channel to guide licensed accommodations through the mandatory tax submissions process.

“The Ministry of Tourism is steadfastly committed to using innovation that empowers our tourism partners—whether newcomers or long-term—to feel confident that the process of doing business with us is not complicated or burdensome,” commented Chief Officer Stran Bodden, who guided the development of this project.  “We must endeavour to always consider our partners when creating or improving processes such as tax submission, especially when the process is mandated by law. Whenever possible, we will cut through red tape and support our tourism sector through innovation, online tools and the in-person customer service that we are known for.”

Providing tips on how to complete and submit monthly Cayman Islands Government Tourism Accommodation Tax Submissions, the short video guides users through the entire process.  “This how-to video gives our licensed properties a complete walk through from beginning to end of the submission process.  At the DOT, I am proud to say that we listen to our clients and those in the tourism community to identify ways to create an environment that is pro-business,” shared Mrs. Rosa Harris, Director.  “We continually provide the tourism community with tools such as this and will continue to create other tools that will simplify the business of working with us.”

In addition to embracing technology for tax submission, the Department continues to develop upskilling opportunities through a variety of training programmes offered throughout the year.   The next seminar being offered by the DOT is a Homeshare Summit, available to licensed accommodations providers who use platforms such as Airbnb, VRBO, and the like.  Taking place on 4 September, licensed homeshare providers will hear from panellists about the importance of providing unique experiences for their guests.  Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet local vendors who can help enhance the Caymankind experiences already offered at their properties.
