CIDOT Helps the Community Get Immersed in the Art of Thatching
Cayman Islands
13 July 2021
The Hon. Minister Kenneth Bryan demonstrates his thatch plaiting skills for Immersed participants with assistance from artisan and instructor, Carlene Ebanks-Carter.
The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism hosted over 40 participants at the latest Immersed workshops on July 10 and 11, sharing the art of thatching and its role in the islands’ history with community participants. Hosted at two of the country’s historic locations –Pedro St James in Grand Cayman and the Cayman Brac Heritage House—the sessions were led by artisans who shared their personal stories while teaching the unique techniques that make thatch work so special.
