National Flag Carrier, Cayman Airways Ltd., relaunches twice weekly direct flights to Tocumen International Airport in Panama

The Cayman Islands and Panama, Central America, are now closer than ever since Cayman Airways Limited (CAL) has reopened a route between the two destinations. This new, non-stop flight will provide Panamanians and travellers from Latin America with easy and convenient access to the Cayman Islands, known for its beautiful beaches and unique vacation experiences.

With its new fleet of 160-seat B737-8 jets, non-stop flights to Panama will operate on Mondays and Thursdays to allow for weekend travel or longer stays. Departure from Owen Roberts International Airport (GCM) will be late morning, arriving in Panama in the early afternoon after 1 hour and 50 minutes flying time. The inbound flight will depart Panama an hour and 30 minutes later, arriving back in Grand Cayman before 5pm.

“I am very pleased that Cayman Airways continues to play a key strategic role in the development of tourism and inward investment for the Cayman Islands. This new, direct service will provide greater access to our beautiful islands for tourists from the Latin American market and will open up new opportunities for trade and investment. It will also enhance our economic ties with Panama, and further solidify our reputation as a leading destination for business and leisure travel in the Caribbean,” said Minister of Tourism and Ports, Hon. Kenneth Bryan.

Cayman Airways President and CEO, Mr. Fabian Whorms, said: "The relaunch of the airline's Panama route not only conveniently connects the Cayman Islands with Panama, but with all of Latin America as well. This route will provide the perfect mix of options for leisure and business travel for our customers in Cayman as well as in Latin America."

The flight's departure from Owen Roberts International Airport (GCM) on Grand Cayman on Monday June 26th, 2023, was celebrated with a special ribbon cutting ceremony attended by local officials and industry partners. As the aircraft entered the runway for takeoff, it was showered by a customary water cannon salute by the Cayman Islands Fire Service to mark the occasion.

To mark the flight's departure from Panama to the Cayman Islands on the same day, a similar celebration was held at Tocumen International Airport, attended by the delegation from the Cayman Islands, headed by the Minister of Tourism and Ports, The Hon. Kenneth Bryan. The Cayman delegation will be attending a series of events and meetings in Panama with the tourism industry, tourism authorities, media and special guests.

The Cayman Airways Panama route will operate year round twice-weekly with service on Mondays and Thursdays.
